Treating extremely bleach-damaged hair.

miércoles, 29 de julio de 2015

I am kind of obssessed with changing my hair color. As I went from dark brown, to  a light brown, to ombre tips that changed to blue, pink and purple, to dark red ombre hair, to Ariel red, to fully dark red again, to black, to dark purple and then, to silver.

As I tried to dye my hair gray it has gotten more damaged that it has ever been: it looks completely fried, but don’t be scared if you want your hair this color, it doesn’t have to be that way, in my case, it got so damaged because I had to get through a long process, because the first time it wasn’t light enough and it turned green, the second time I tried to get it, my roots didn’t absorb the color and the third time, I finally kind of got it, my roots look more of a silver blue color and the rest looks more like a grey green, but it looks ok and I’m definitely not touching it again.

So, as you can imagine, this equals to a lot (LOT) of damage and this is how I am treating it:

First of all, I apply the #1 rule in hair: I don’t wash my hair everyday. Actually, I wash my hair just when I need it, and since it is now extremely dry, I can get along with washing it only once a week (I know it sounds disgusting but even after a week, it doesn’t get oily neither stinky).

When I actually wash my hair, I use these two products:
Proclaim Argan Oil heat activated treatment:  You are supposed to heat the bottle in water before you use it, but because I am lazy, I apply it all over my hair and use my blow dryer over it and leave it for 10 minutes.
Avyna hair refiller shampoo: It contains hyaluronic acid and is sulfate free. This thing has totally saved my hair; it made it so strong, that if it wasn’t for it, I think I would have already gone bald.

When I get out of the shower I use my Joico Color Therapy Restorative Styling Oil, I know it says it is styling, but it can be used as a treatment when the hair is wet, and then I use the Uniq One All in One Hair Treatment, it is supposed to do everything you want for your hair, including protecting it from heat, what I can tell is that it actually seems to repair the damage, make the hair less frizzy and give it more body.

I also use the Schwarzkopf Repair Rescue Sealed Ends on the tips of the hair, which have always been a problem for me, and I find that it has made a difference, they look healthier and it smells awesome. I use it when I get out the shower while my hair is wet, and also use it when it’s dry just when my hair is looking not so good.

I use the Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy when my hair is dry to style it, it gives a lot of shine and makes it look less frizzy, also it kinda smells like chocolate. I use this up to three times a day.

I don't use heat on my hair that often, maybe just twice a month.

I know in the picture my hair doesn’t look super healthy, for sure, but it has improved a lot since the –accident- happened and I feel more confident with it now.

I’m still trying to find a deep conditioning mask that works, I used a Tresemmé one and it did nothing for my hair and actually made it look worst, and so if I find something that works, I’ll let you know.

Thank you for reading!
